Is there anybody there? The sea goes dark how the wind blows cold So don't go to the sea come to the hills the standing stones we'll be safe from harm up in the trees as down on the beach the water comes sister run to me Seven tides align severing my love and I Sister run and hide we'll flee from here come evening tide The sea goes dark still the air how the wind blows cold Chorus Father went to sea left our mother, you and me he packed his tired bones and never thought to bring them home The sea goes dark still the air how the wind blows cold Chorus Holding up a light and shivering to bring you in If no ship comes tonight we'll find what's left upon the tide The sea goes dark still the air how the wind goes cold

It was four in the morning On a churning sea and I was up on the poop deck Just my baby and me See a… See a seagull flying east love Easter Island's where I'll be love Easter Island's where I'll be And we can go to starboard We can drown in the hold But this twisting sinking feeling makes me sick unto my soul Go to sleep Just lie upon your shadow So to sleep but do not lie alone when we can lie together sweet, sweet Sarah And we can climb up the rigging we can swing in the nest and the sentimental swaying of the seas caress me til I See a… See a seagull flying east love Easter Island's where I'll be love Easter Island's where I'll be Land! Land! Land Ahoy! I see a floating plastic buoy and then I sing, sing dance with joy until the world swings long with me Right Here!

Burn Sir! 04:19
I’m looking for a fruit tree Do fruit trees grow here? No sir. but they used to grow everywhere I can see a rainbow think I’ll go there Go sir But it doesn’t lead anywhere I used to have a home here With my family Gone sir Gone like the apple tree I used to know a friend who laid his head here No one, anyone, anywhere How we walked down by the old canal sunlight dancing under the bridge Promise me you’ll wait for me I’ll be back certainly When the apples hang ripe on the tree Until the time when the apples hang ripe on the tree Take me to the girl who spoke so kindly Oh sir, she won’t say anything But I said I’d return at last to see her Oh sir, she won’t see anyone But is she true to me my own sweet darling? True sir, and faithful as the morning I promised I’d return to lay down with her Lie then - over by the oak tree How we walked down by the old canal sunlight dancing under the bridge Promise me you’ll wait for me I’ll be back certainly When the apples hang ripe on the tree Until the time when the apples hang ripe on the tree I’ll build my heart a boat to sail me from here Go sir, the wind is lifting As up along the mountains clouds are forming Run sir, the storm comes calling A hundred men arrived in town this morning Run sir, the net is closing and as far as the eye can see there are houses burning Burn sir. This is your doing. Burn Sir! Pack up your belongings and learn sir Never to return No home here No home here Promise me you’ll wait for me I’ll be back certainly When the apples hang ripe on the tree Until the time when the apples hang ripe on the tree

Budleigh-O 03:42
Hey ho! Laura don't go Come and I'll lead you to somewhere I know We will settle together in Budleigh-o Come love, come with me soon Come and we'll go for a roll in the dunes We'll be good to each other in Budleigh-o Take me away from here Take me to Spain Oh take me to somewhere you'll want me again We all might die in our sleep tonight In Budleigh-o they dance the clock They dance until the needle stops Some they dance and some they drop And those that do will never get up Hey ho! Laura don't go Come and I'll lead you to somewhere I know We will settle together in Budleigh-o Come love, come with me soon Come and we'll go for a roll in the dunes We'll be good to each other in Budleigh-o Take me to Portugal Take me away Oh take me to somewhere you'll want me again We all might drown in the sea tonight In Budleigh-o they listen well to all the troubles that you tell Some of us will leave behind the worries of our hearts and minds Hey ho! Laura don't go Come and I'll lead you to somewhere I know We will settle together in Budleigh-o Come love, come with me soon Come and we'll go for a roll in the dunes We'll be good to each other in Budleigh-o Take me to anywhere Take me away Oh take me to somewhere you'll love me again We all might fall in the road tonight In Budleigh-o they keep at bay The things you cannot throw away Some they go and some return And some of us will never learn Hey ho! Laura don't go Come and I'll lead you to somewhere I know We will settle together in Budleigh-o Come love, call me to you Call me to lie in your bed on the dunes We'll be good to each other in Budleigh-o

Couldn’t you have waited? I was nearly home I saw the world in many stages Man becomes a worm Becomes a songbird Some good rises from the wreckage of the earth Morning came to England landed we in Lowestoft and greeted with a small meal Told us then to leave and head to London Some good rises from the wreckage of the earth Twenty men had landed Many lost at sea before and some of them abandoned some abandoned me unto the songbird Some good rises from the wreckage of the earth On the walk to Woodbridge Sickness took a dozen more and half the rest went drinking leaving us with four we head to London Some good rises from the wreckage of the earth Two of my companions Fell for girls in Gallywood and I myself was tempted but deep inside my heart I heard a songbird Some good rises from the wreckage of the earth My last friend was fading madness came between us and he left while I was sleeping Lonely on the Thames I come to London Some good rises from the wreckage of the earth Couldn’t you have waited? I saw through the window Playing with your baby Before you saw me I had gone away

From Greenwich town unto the wetlands my cat she roams far and wide a bonny coat and eyes of amber she will not stay safe inside Can’t keep a cat from wandering to do so sir would be a sin But all the seas on a mariner’s map can’t keep her far from me A twenty gun with skull and crossbones in Greenwich town she was moored and smelling food and high adventure my cat she leapt.. All aboard! Food she found and food aplenty among the crates of stolen tea but when she crept up to the crows nest all around was the sea Can’t keep a cat from wandering to do so sir would be a sin But all the seas on a mariner’s map can’t keep her far from me Well every ship she has a fiddler to our stowaway he took a shine for you’ve never sir in all your long years seen a dancing cat such as mine The old dread pirate captain Jackson His calloused heart she took to charm and for her strength and acts of bravery he made her second in command Can’t keep a cat from wandering to do so sir would be a sin But all the seas on a mariner’s map can’t keep her far from me In Greenwich Town I sit and drink sir for my bonny cat has gone to sea I think of her both well and often for she is the dearest thing to me And where she sails i cannot fathom neath foreign stars on distant tides but all my wealth I’d gladly give sir to be drinking here by her side Can’t keep a cat from wandering to do so sir would be a sin But all the seas on a mariner’s map can’t keep her far from me

Murmuration 03:01
A scourge of starlings A murmuration Twist in the sky Twist in the sky and are gone A crow A murder An exaltation of larks A darkness is threatening To spill in the sky Still in the sky and is gone You turn away I carry on Such wings are strong What tidings magpie? And morning to you What do you sing? What trinkets bring you to me? A nest of silver The call of children Hungry for worms Don’t wait your turn to be fed You turn away I carry on Such wings are strong A nightingale keeps a watch upon us The owls in council A parliament is hung in the sky Still in the sky and is gone You turn away I carry on Such wings are strong

Cities 03:12
There is a storm coming along Coming alone Making a line across the grass I’ve grown alone When will you come? Bringing the sun Spinning the yarn across the cloth we’ve spun At home a little light can make it grow you and I alone can know There’s water in the soil below us as we go City of mine - look how you’ve grown Turrets and domes adorn the skyline of our home When will you come? Bring us the sun Weaving a yarn across the cloth we’ve spun At home a little light can make us grow you and I alone can know There’s water in the soil below us as we go Soak up the day Drink from the root Tomorrow the bough will bend in burden from our fruit Lover of mine We carry our bones and stand in the storm to bear the beautiful unknown At home a little light can make us grow you and I alone can know There’s water in the soil below us as we go At home a little light can make us grow you and I alone can know There’s water in the soil below us

Jean-Michel 03:02
Julie lit a fire and the room filled up with smoke There’s something up the chimney darling This is not a joke We’ll grab the brush and broom and then we’ll give the thing a poke and when we’ve cleaned the chimney we’ll be cosy by the stove There’s probably a little bird that’s nesting in the stack and i’m sorry little birdy but we need the chimney back now there’s something really stuck up there I hit it with a broom And what fell out but a blackened shoe? Julie cried “My love I fear I know this shoe too well! There’s a body in the chimney and it’s that of Jean-Michel! I’ve seen him in the gutter and I’ve seen him in the cell Let us drag him from the chimney now before he starts to smell” They tied a rope around his leg and tried to pull him down But he was stuck in too tightly so they called the boys from town The boys climbed on the roof and tried to pull him out the top and down below Julie pushed him with a mop Now Jean-Michel the thief is safely buried in the grave And Julie and her husband can sit warmly by the stove And sometimes they hear noises but they do not feel afraid For it’s only birds a nesting and the chimney’s been replaced And sometimes things go missing but they cannot really tell So they either blame each other or the ghost of Jean-Michel So if your things go missing or chimney starts to smell Keep your eyes wide open for the ghost of Jean-Michel!

n this town, the ghosts of the drowned Gather by the clock when the sun goes down In this town, the ghosts of the drowned Gather by the clock when the sun goes down In this town, the ghosts of the drowned Gather by the clock when the sun goes down In this town, the ghosts of the drowned Gather by the clock when the sun goes down There’s Arthur Clarke, he liked a dram And into the cellar of the inn he ran He found a keg and in he went His soul up to the firmament ‘Twas twenty days and twenty more Before they found his pickled corpse But in that time, I tell no lie The pub had drunk the barrel dry Chorus And over there you’ll see the glint Of Spanish armour, steel and flint For long ago the galleons came To seek dominion, wealth and fame But English God he puffed his cheeks And scattered all the Spanish fleets And those that made it to the shore They found their now unwanted war Chorus Come darkest night from near and far Come souls of many an honest tar The townsfolk here, these wicked liars They rush to light their cliff top fires The ships that sail on salty foam Mistake the distant lights for home They’ll find instead the jagged jaws And wreckers waiting on the shores Chorus When I heard their wicked deeds I rushed to find my swiftest steed And over wood and hill and fen To notify the sheriffs men The townsfolk oh they rode me down And dragged me kicking back to town They bound my feet and wrists as well And threw me in the wishing well So do not fear the raging seas We ghosts are stuff of memories But look about you best you can The threat is from your fellow man Look about you best you can The threat is from your fellow man Gather by the clock when the sun goes down

Stone 02:49
You cannot stay It’s late and we are holding on to what we cannot say You’re great but this cannot be our day love I’ll do you wrong I’m crueller than your body’s sweetest song don’t touch me or we both might turn to stone love to stone love Skip today, Jump tomorrow Look for me on monday and I’ll try to wear a face of stone You and I are lost apart But you and me could only lead to sadness when we’re left alone So on we go It’s later than the two of us had ever hoped to know I miss you but it’s no longer our day love You did me wrong You hid me in the silence of your song don’t kiss me or we both might turn to stone love to stone love Skip today, Jump tomorrow Look for me on monday and I’ll try to wear a face of stone You and I are lost apart But you and me could only lead to sadness when we’re left alone

The Well 03:25
Where are we gonna go now? Now we’ve burned this to the ground I cannot live on love alone We cannot live on love alone I’ve forgotten how to pray How to drive the devil away But oh what devil could there be? when the two of us stand in the shallow sea Love won’t die in a fire or fight It leaves you silently at night and finds a quiet place to lie and the well in the morning comes up dry And the crops fail again and the harvest is not coming in And I love you so well but the harvest is not coming in There is plenty for us now While our summer sun is high Will this candle burn the night? Will the well in the morning come up dry? And the crops fail again and the harvest is not coming in And I love you so well but the harvest is not coming in

Durdham Down 05:03
How long can this last for? This summer of ours As long as the sunlight gives life to these flowers And the flowers will die and we must part ways But let us drink cider until the light fades On durdham down drinking old rosie On durdham down drinking with you On durdham down On durdham down The first time i saw you you were flying a kite as the warm red of evening bled into the night and young as we are the night always comes and chases us homewards and back to our mums chorus A tree painted white seven sisters stand tall and we must walk by them while we can walk at all and you must be home by half past ten and we’ll go together and we might hold hands chorus I’d give it all I would give it away to see you at the sea wall later today and with nothing in in our hearts and with nothing on our minds we’d walk to the water tower down lady’s mile
