On the river Rosemary in my wooden boat with my Father's fishing rod I cast the line and wait If I catch a fish today I'll show it to my dad I hope the fish will bite today I hope the fish will bite It flaps around the boat I can't believe I caught a rainbow trout It's lying still It jumps about I cut it with my knife My finger hurts I cut myself I wrap my hand in cloth I throw the fish back in and cry

Jenny 02:47
Twas on a sunday morning and beside the river there Jenny staring down into the water and up rode a man all riding on a night black mare "Hey you staring down into the water! Would you ride with me in my cavalry? For only the lost will fall in love with me" "But sir I am not lost at all - this river is the Sheaf" (said she, staring down into the water) "And sir I do not like you for you have the smell of death Your mare she is drenched with the scent of the slaughter. So fly from me on thy haggard steed, For I am not lost and I'm not in love with thee" "Of course you're free to go I know your mother waits at home but first won't you grant me this small favour? Take my horses bridle for to lead her to the stream to drink while I fill my pail with water" "Oh aye" (said she) "I'll guide thy steed this I'll do for her thirst - and not for thee" But as she took the bridle she looked up and caught his eye "Jenny you have freed me from my master the mare will lead you onwards through the darkest parts of hell my debt is yours Your life is hers" "Oh Christ!" said she "Oh damned indeed!" "This debt I'll pay through all my days until some fellow take my place and this deceit is done unto me and only the lost will fall in love with me"

Willow 03:21
Willow tree where you and me play jangalo and down we go A blow that knocked the breath from me an anaesthetic malady Darling take the best of me and leave whatever's left for the birds The birds that follow me through undergrowth and cobblestone and over bones this garden grows a willow Where the river runs to you please wait for me oh I am coming Where the willow bends for me I built a nest to hide us safely Sorrel, bracken and the birch when morning came the birds were singing the birds that follow me through undergrowth and cobblestone and over bones this river flows It grows a willow Praise this holy brazen day Praise the joyful and the grave God is gone this glorious day

Man down Man overboard Man about town Hangs from a bough Gather round friends To cut him down Carry his body Through the churchyard And out of the city To unhallowed ground Dawn breaks Man to the plough Girl about town On the family farm She catches his eye Follows him home Through the churchyard And out of the city A bed by the river On unhallowed ground I saw a man on a rope For a girl from the town Oh won't you gather round friends To cut him down? She cried - Oh come to me now Do with my body as with the plough He replied - I won't have you now Wait one more summer I'll speak with your father and ask for his blessing to honour our vow I saw a man on a rope For a girl from the town Oh won't you gather round friends To cut him down? Daughter of mine So fair and so fine Where have you been This evening time? Father dear I've been with a man So gentle and kind He asked for my hand Daughter to bed! I won't have you wed The man is a scoundrel And I swear if he's touched you Tomorrow he'll hang By the neck til he's dead I saw a man on a rope For a girl from the town Oh won't you gather round friends To cut him down?

Devils 05:14
I worked day and night in a job that gave me grief So I called on the Devil to bring me some relief That night he came to me on the factory floor And offered me a bargin that I could not ignore A life of pure pleasure, no pain and no care I'd always be young in the fresh morning air So I took his hand and in the blink of an eye I was a lamb to the slaughter waiting to die Oh Devils Devils Devils Always to the letter Suddenly upon you Then gone forever We prayed, we prayed for a little baby boy For fourteen years our house was cold And nine months ago Laura turned to me "Henry it's too late, I'm far too old" So we called on the devil to send us a son By eight thirty this morning the baby had come It had teeth and claws and shining red eyes The Devil said - did you want a human child? Well you should have specified! Oh Devils Devils Devils Always to the letter Suddenly upon you Then gone forever Oh Devils Devils Devils Laura is dying The baby is crying I cradle them gently I was a fisherman on the southern coast And I caught enough fish to keep my family afloat One night I was mending my ropes by the shore When a rare and lovely beauty offered me more I kissed her and she told me to haul in my net I caught so many fish that now nothing is left Now the fish are all gone and the sea it is dead My children are hungry and my young wife has left Devils Devils Devils Always to the letter Suddenly upon you Then gone forever Oh Devils Devils Devils Our bellies are empty And that day of plenty No more than a memory Devil was laughing about all that he had done God said - My Devil, yes you have won Come up here oh come up here and wear my golden crown And the Devil climbed right up there and could not get down And God came to earth to play tricks without end Up there the Devil he plots his revenge

Cliffs 02:51
I rue the day you called my name You called for me when I was far away And you alone beside the sea You called for me But nobody came When you called my name I would have come To see you there To see you cry And I would wait And I could die from this The waves come down upon the cliffs One kiss from you would beg my heart to break me When you called my name I would have come

Bristol 03:32

I saw a rat in my house I had been up drinking wine There was a taste in my mouth Whiskey and vodka And you weren't beside me The sheets were still warm Where you had laid your sweet head And when the rat ran away I was alone And you weren't beside me at all Where are you when you're not there? So I went down to the fair And I bought two toffee apples From a strange girl with tattoos Inked in the likeness of someone familiar I took a train to the coast Wheeling my grandmother's piano All of the coaches were full So I sat at the station and tapped out your favourite tune I'd play doh ray me for you I met a man on the beach Gave him my palm for a fortune And for a pound he told me this Your love has left you So go drown your heart in the sea

Fiddle Song 04:40
This fiddle here is a precious thing It's been heard by Sultan, Prince and King If you listen hard and you listen well It's grand old tale I'm proud to tell Yes this violin is a treasure rare Though it's only pine and pearl and hair What I'll relate I swear is true Apart from the bits when I lie to you Tap your heel and point your toe Saddle up to the bridge we go Danny O he worked the mine In a northern town before our time His pick was sharp and his eye was keen Found this fiddle buried in a seam He dug it out and took it home and across the strings he drew the bow Strong as granite, old as tin Rich as marble, sweet as sin Tap your heel and point your toe Saddle up to the bridge we go A fiddle is a wild you mare Tamed by day and month and year Bit by bit he broke her in Tucked beneath his bearded chin If you could only hear him play You'd swear by morning, night and day That angels couldn't play so well Nor all the devils down in hell Tap your heel and point your toe Saddle up to the bridge we go When the draft knocked on his door Press-ganged him to cruel war Friend and foe would stop and sigh To hear him play before the fight For either friend or foe must die And all alone across the sea His violin for company He played his passage back to home With this piece of wood and hair and bone This violin it saw him home Tap your heel and point your toe Saddle up to the bridge we go Danny O he passed away His family still grieve today His violin it missed him too Like a heart it split in two Well I fixed it good and I fixed it true And I'll play it sweet and high for you So raise your glass and toast his fame For Danny was my father's name Yes Danny was my father's name
